Privacy Policy
What this site collects, what it does not, and which third parties are involved.
This site is a personal engineering blog. It is deliberately simple, and it collects as little as possible.
There are no accounts, no logins, no advertising, and nothing here is sold or shared with data brokers.
Nothing.
The site itself is a set of static files. There is no server-side application, no database, and no session tracking of your visit by me.
Three services are involved in running this site. Each is listed below with what it receives and why.
The site is hosted on Netlify, which serves the pages and, like any web host, records standard request logs including IP address and user agent. These are operational logs used for delivery and abuse prevention.
If you use the contact form, the submission is delivered through Netlify Forms and includes whatever you typed into it.
Aggregate page-view statistics are collected using Umami Cloud. Umami is cookie-free and does not build a profile of you or follow you between websites. It records things like which page was viewed, the referring site, and a coarse country-level location.
I use this only to see which posts people find useful.
Comments and the like counter are provided by FastComments.
Commenting requires no account and no login. When you leave a comment:
- Your name and comment text are published on the page once approved.
- Your email address is optional. If you provide one, it is never displayed publicly — it exists so I can reply to you or notify you about replies.
- Every comment is reviewed before it appears. Nothing you write is visible to other readers until I approve it.
- FastComments receives your comment along with technical information such as your IP address, which it uses for spam prevention.
When you like a post, FastComments records the like against that page so the count can be shown to everyone. Your browser stores a marker so the site remembers you already liked it.
FastComments is a paid service with no advertising business, and it does not track visitors across websites. Their privacy policy is at fastcomments.com.
If you want a comment of yours edited or deleted, or you want the email address attached to it removed, contact me and I will do it. There is no form to fill in and no verification hoop — just ask.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the change will apply to the site from the moment it is published here.
Questions about anything on this page can go through the contact page.
